As a child, I played journalist, assuming a broadcast personality ("Kimberly Waves reporting from the Gila National Forest") and carrying a notebook everywhere. When my baby sister asked to play, I was known to suggested games like "who can read the longest" and "who can come up with the best story." But it has always been the true stories that draw me in.

Motivated to share about authentic people, places and experiences, I have spent my career in media, gaining experience first with New Mexico Magazine and the state's annual vacation guide then with Women's Adventure Magazine, where I started as an intern and gear tester and eventually got the privilege of putting my name at the top of the masthead. The opportunity to reinvent an historic paper in my hometown allowed me to acquaint myself with Grant County, where I have embraced my roots and made a home.

Having explored many of the traditional career opportunities for a local who writes, I decided to harness the momentum I was gaining as a freelancer in late 2022. While still finding my groove, I am open to contract work in almost all shapes and forms. So far, continuing with high-quality journalism for regional publications has kept me busy while I also build a client list locally. I'm fortunate to be able to choose who I work with and pursue work in the fields that most interest me.
